Ever notice how some imagery becomes so familiar, all it takes is a fleeting glance to immediately recognize it? Such was the case in 2006 when we stumbled upon what initially appeared to be Sean’s award-winning poster for The Victoria Polo Classic - a 2002 charity polo tournament. The polo player on the horse, the tent and clouds in the background...they were all identical. But wait a second! Somebody’s changed the type to read “Hamptons Polo Party at the Stanley Park Pavilion”! WTF?
With a little digging it became apparent that the poster was distributed by a pair of local party planners who put on elite-sounding social mixers. With regard to the name of the party itself, two things immediately came to mind: 1. The Hamptons is located in New York State, and 2. polo hasn’t been played in Vancouver since the 1980s! In the end we managed to track them down and politely ask them to cease and desist using our artwork.
